Viva Portugal!
Provincetown Portuguese Festival
June 14th, 2010
“Viva Portugal!” will be heard throughout Provincetown from June 24 to 27 in honor of a culture that has brought vibrancy to the town since its early days as a fishing and whaling village.

The annual Provincetown Portuguese Festival is always a lively affair, with a full schedule of music, food and dance. Brightly colored flags draped along Commercial Street mark its advent, which brings a parade of performers and others in traditional Portuguese dress, along with numerous other special events.

Many other musical acts, including the percussion performers Bossa Triba, Michelle Romeiro, the Dory Bar Blues Band and St. Anthony's Band from Cambridge will be in town for the event as well.
Portuguese-American author Frank X. Gaspar, who was born and raised in Provincetown, will read from his latest novel, Stealing Fatima, on June 25.
Puppets, games and fishing fill the schedule to entertain the children. Kale soup will be enjoyed, along with paprika-rich linguica sausages and other specialties, at a Portuguese food court.
In keeping with all of this seaside aplomb, boats are also decorated and judged, while a Fisherman’s Mass is shared at St. Peters Church, followed by a procession to the pier for the 63rd Annual Blessing of the Fleet.
Highlights for the 2010 festival include an opening night party with a sampling of specialties from Provincetown restaurants on June 24, Frank X. Gaspar's reading at 3:30 p.m. on June 25, the festival parade and a Fado concert on June 26 and the Blessing of the Fleet on June 27.
