It’s time to get yourself some spurs and chaps, don a ten-bucket hat and get ready to take a high-stepping amble down main street.

Or, more precisely, down Commercial Street, which will be transformed into the “Wild, Wild West” for Carnival 2008, taking place between August 17 and 23.
Always the biggest and longest party of the summer, Provincetown’s Carnival is a favorite with all. The costumes are spectacular and outrageous, the floats are over-the-top, the beads are aplenty, and a crowd of thousands throngs the street.
While the height of the revelry is of course the annual Carnival Parade, this year on August 21, the whole week is a high-energy affair, with parties galore and an endless cast of characters – both resident and tourist – who are bent on bliss.
Starting off the fanfare for 2008, there will be a grand opening party at the Boatslip Resort on August 17, complete with a mechanical bull and line dancing. As is the tradition, the comedian and jazz star Lea Delaria will also host a show featuring many of Provincetown’s favorite performers.
Next up is a “Wild, Wild West” Boat Party on August 19 aboard the Provincetown II with DJ Lee Thornhill, and then a “Rawhide Dance Party” at the A-House. On August 20 and 21, Club Purgatory will be the Carnival destination, with a dance party and karaoke hosted by “Annie Oakley,” otherwise known as the infamous Anita Cocktail. And then on August 22, there will be “Marshalls and Outlaws” closing party at The Crown and Anchor, with DJ Tony Moran.
Other highlights during the week include Drag Bingo, a Drag Brunch, beach volleyball and more.
