Whales, Two-Stepping and Pyschics

Late April Activities

April 16th, 2017

Though the winds on the Bay may be a bit chilly, right whale season is well underway, which means that the Center for Coastal Studies is hard at work, conducting a new season of research and rescue, and sharing the historic connections created from man's fascination with whales.

Join six acclaimed psychic mediums for a reading or healing using Mediumship, Akashic Record, Psychic Reading, Reiki/Healing, Angel Card and Astrology modalities!

On April 20th at 6:00 pm, the Center and the Provincetown Public Library present a special panel discussion to honor the Library’s second annual Moby-Dick Marathon Reading. Friends of the Center and the Library will join Stormy Mayo, David Mattila, Dennis Minsky and Robert Rocha for a discussion celebrating Provincetown’s historic connection with the Azores forged by the whaling industry. The panel, “Twice Round Moby-Dick: How the Whaling Industry Connected Massachusetts and the Azores”, will be held in the Marc Jacobs Reading Room. Come learn why Yankee whale ships went to the Azores, as well as a narrative on why so many Azorean whalers chose to come to MA. Panelists will also discuss the influences Yankee whaling had on Azorean shore whaling techniques.

The Provincetown Public Library Moby-Dick Marathon Reading commences April 21st when Provincetown will join New Bedford MA, Mystic CT, and New York City in celebrating its rich whaling heritage by hosting the second annual Moby-Dick Marathon Reading. Published in 1851, Herman Melville’s “Moby-Dick” chronicles the obsessive quest of Ahab, captain of the whaler Pequod, for revenge on a massive white whale responsible for destroying his ship and severing his leg at the knee during a previous voyage. The three-day marathon-style reading of this nineteenth century masterpiece will be held on the Provincetown Library’s Second Level on the starboard side of the Rose Dorothea Model, and officially begins at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 21. The full weekend schedule is as follows: 2:00-8:00 pm on the 21st, 10:00 am to 10:00 pm on the 22nd, and 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on the 23rd. Come celebrate our whaling history and a classic masterwork of American literature!
