February Happenings Continue!

February 14th, 2017

There is a stunning wildness in Provincetown, with windblown storm tides, rainbows of light through breaking clouds, and snow-covered vistas of dunes and forests. Indoors, too, there's quite a bit to attract the eye and mind!

Salt marshes are among the most biologically productive ecosystems on earth and play an important role in filtering out nutrients.

Over at Provincetown Art Association and Museum, new exhibits are popping up like crocuses in snow, with three Opening Receptions on Friday February 17th at 6 pm!

“Double Takes,” features works by instructors and students from the Lenore Ross Curating Program, in which participants re-create works by master artists using their own interpretations of the pieces.

The second, “Lester Johnson: from the Permanent Collection” showcases watercolors and block prints created by Lester Johnson, and explores how the sights of Provincetown informed the development of Johnson’s unique and important visual voice. Lester’s roots in Provincetown go back to 1953, when he had his first show at Earle Pilgrim’s shop at 393 Commercial Street!
PAAM also presents its Members' Juried exhibit, which runs through early April. If you're eager for even more, come back to PAAM on March 3rd to view the “Members' Open show, and its Opening Reception on March 10th!

Salt marshes are located in the intertidal zone. In New England, they are marked by communities of salt-tolerant vegetation often found among a mosaic of meandering tidal creeks. Most often, salt marshes occur in low-energy locations where the land is somewhat sheltered from the direct flow of the tide.Salt marshes are among the most biologically productive ecosystems on earth and play an important role in filtering out nutrients. They also serve as critical habitat for a host of important animal species including fish, shellfish, and birds. Chris Green is an award winning photographer and former Science Communicator at the Cape Cod National Seashore.
