Bars & Hang Outs Dance Clubs Live Venues Entertainers & Concerts Entertainment Map

November 26th, 2013

The Chorale is Provincetown's 150-member community chorus, conducted by John Arterton, and their concerts are always a highlight of the holiday season!

Are you under-whelmed by the crowds at the mall, and the canned music and lack of true holiday spirit? Provincetown has cures for those pre-Christmas blahs!

As you drive or walk through town, you never know when you'll turn a corner and see a magical display of twinkling colored lights, some of them incredibly detailed and creative, which illuminate the night from homes and guest houses. Then there are the glittering white lights at the Monument and the wonderful Lobster Pot Tree and the Memorial Trees in Lopes Square, which attract photographers from near and far for their beauty and the romance of simpler times.

Shopping is a more leisurely process, and storekeepers have time to help you select just the right gifts for those on your list. At this time of year, too, most of the stores are having holiday and/or late season sales, so deals can be found, whether you want a unique wine or fine cigars for a friend, jewelry for that very special person in your life, or even goodies for your pet!

Holiday concerts are plentiful after Holly Folly, with the Outer Cape Chorale performing their “Gloria! Music for Chorus and Brass” concert at Town Hall on Friday and Saturday nights, December 13th and 14th at 7 pm. The concert features John Rutter's “Gloria” and Daniel Pinkham's “Christmas Cantata”, with the Brentwood Brass, Jeff Myers on percussion and John Thomas on keyboard. Admission to the concerts are free, but a goodwill collection with be taken, so donate what you can. The Chorale is Provincetown's 150-member community chorus, conducted by John Arterton, and their concerts are always a highlight of the holiday season!

Saturday, December 15th brings the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra to Town Hall to present a special Christmas version of Handel's “Messiah,” from 3:00 to 4:30 pm at Town Hall, as well. Tickets are available for $45, a portion of which benefits the the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies!
On Saturday, December 21st, enjoy both art and music at the Provincetown Art Association! For your $7 admission fee, you can browse through their current exhibitions, and then kick back for Klezmer and Holiday swing music, with Carol Wyeth on vocals, Larry Chaplin on violin, Laird Boles on bass and Provincetown's own Bart Weisman! Your toes will be tappin', and your heart will fill with holiday joy!

Of course, you can still catch the charming family play, “Oliver” at the Provincetown Theater, as well! The show runs every Thursday through Sunday from December 6th through December 22nd. This heartwarming tale is adapted from the Charles Dickens story, and will delight audiences from 8 to 80.

If you're around on Monday nights, head down to the Mews restaurant for their weekly Coffeehouse for a warm toddy and some great local talents! Coffeehouse holds an Open Mic at 8 pm., followed by a special featured performer at 9 pm! Upcoming artists include Michael Holt on December 9th, Penny Arcade on the 16th, and music by Coffeehouse host Peter Donnelly on the 23rd!

Finally, when you want a hot, delicious meal, any number of restaurants hold winter specials nights...for example, Bayside Betsy's offers an all-you-can-eat “Fish Fryday”, a three-course Asian dinner menu on Thursdays, and their wonderful “Comfort Food” menu for Sunday and Monday nights, all featuring ridiculously generous portions and priced about $15.95 or less! The Pointe restaurant holds a Wednesday night 2-for-1 dinner special; the Hot L Bar & Grille offers nightly “Hot L'ocals” special dinners for $10 (Sunday-Thursday); and Fanizzi's is still holding their substantial Sunday brunch buffet, and early-bird dinner specials (4:30-6:00 pm), for $14.95!
