Charms of Autumn

Theater, Architecture, Parties, and Gourmet Treats

September 29th, 2013

Autumn vacations are great – the weather is less extreme, the process of travel less frenetic, and the huge crowds dissipate somewhat with the end of summer. There are still many things to do, but now you can take the time and space to breathe!

Tatse for yourself why fine wine and fine chocolate are a match made in heaven!

For the guys, October 3-6 is the 17th Annual Mates Leather Weekend, for those fond of the leather lifestyle, which includes themed parties at the Crown and Anchor, Club Purgatory and the A-House, as well as a pretty full schedule of events including a vendors “leather market”.

From October 10-13, theatergoers can check out the Women’s International Theater Festival at the Provincetown Theater. Each evening at 8 pm, you can take in performances of “In Their Own Words, an Evening of 10-Minute plays by and About Women”, and women writers have the opportunity to participate in a Writing Workshop on Saturday the 12th from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm. You will work with playwrights from the festival to develop your own script and your own story. Advance registration required and lunch is provided. Fee for the workshop is $50; please contact the theater to pre-register. Finally, on the 12th and 13th, at 5 pm, you can hear readings of two full-length plays, “First Woman” and “Seven,” which is written by local writer/actress Dian Hamilton!

On Saturday, October 12th, foodies can enjoy a special day of epicurean events at Sage Inn and Lounge! At 11:30 am, you can take a cooking class with the Inn's Chef Lucio Garnica. Learn from one of the best chefs in Town! Cost is $30 per person, and reservations are required. At 2 pm, chocoholics will love “Oh Chocolat: Cultivate Your Palate for Fine Cacao”. Join the award-winning chocolatiers from Chocolate Therapy, and indulge with a healthy dose of chocolate and education. Reservations are required and admission is $25 per person. Finish up your evening with Sage's 9 pm Parlour Night event, “Pairing Fine Wine with Fine Chocolate”, and taste for yourself why fine wine and fine chocolate are a match made in heaven! Chocolate Therapy and Chef Lucio and Sage staff have teamed up to create 5 wine and chocolate pairings that will blow your mind! Relax in The Lounge as you learn how to taste and pair these two super foods and sample these five delicious creations. Reservations required; admission is $25. For any or all of these events, call Sage directly at 508.487.6424.

Also on October 12th, join art lovers at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum's 13th Annual Gala, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner at PAAM, at 5:30pm. Honorees at the event this year are: Salvatore del Dio for Lifetime Achievement; the late Ciro Cozzi, (posthumous) for Lifetime Achievement; and Provincetown's Jim Bakker, for Extraordinary Support of Provincetown Art and Artists! Take your night out to the next level at Provincetown’s premiere social event of the fall season. Dress to impress and be swept away by the splendid art in PAAM’s elegant galleries. Enjoy inventive dining with MAX Ultimate Food, and help celebrate three individuals who have left their indelible mark on Provincetown art! Your ticket includes cocktail reception, dinner and dessert.

How about the low-key fun of a walking tour of town? Then try out Ptown Tours! The company was founded in 2009 by professor of art and architectural history Rob Anderson, and architect James Vogel, and offer weekend tours by arrangement at any time of day. Just call them at 617-959-1365, and they'll be happy to meet you at an agreed upon time. You can choose from their “heart of Ptown” or “east end of Ptown” tours, about the history, art, architecture, literature, and the personalities of town; and their “haunts of Ptown” tour of the town cemeteries and back alleys at night (wear sturdy shoes and bring a flashlight).

Come breathe in the pleasures of autumn in Provincetown!
