Celebrating its tenth year, Jon Arterton’s Outer Cape Chorale and Chamber Singers will perform the “Brahms Requiem” this Friday/Saturday, May 11th and 12th at 7 p.m. in Provincetown’s Town Hall (260 Commercial). This 130-plus volunteer chorus is extraordinary and has been hard at work learning German for this richly complex work. Performances are free, due to the generosity of many and a pass around basket. They will also perform at the Nauset Middle School in Orleans, Sunday, May 13th, at 3pm.
The Provincetown Theatre always brings exciting new work with its bi-annual Playwrights Festival. (238 Bradford Street) Of particular note is a one-time staged reading of A TALENTED WOMAN written by Lynda Sturner and Jim Dalglish and directed by Margaret Van Sant on Saturday, May 12th, at 3:30 p.m. ($5.00) Sturner and Dalglish are long-time collaborators in prior productions at the Provincetown Theater. With Van Sant directing, it’s a taste of the daring people who helped create the Provincetown Playwright’s Lab almost fifteen years ago. There are performances of the always engaging ten minute plays, a one act play Friday and Saturday, May 11th and 12th at 8:00 p.m. with a matinee Sunday, May 13th at 2:00 p.m. ($15.00) For more information about this year’s works, please go to www.provincetowntheater.com.
 | Varla Jean Merman stars in The Medium. |
|
Varla Jean Merman aka Jeffery Roberson plays the title role in Gian Carlo Menotti's THE MEDIUM at the Art House (214 Commercial) Friday, May 18th at 7:30 p.m. through June 3rd for eleven performances ($30-$35). Directed by Donna Drake and produced by Provincetown Counter Productions in association with Mark Cortale, THE MEDIUM has Elizabeth Hastings, who has conducted for both New York City Opera and College Light Opera on Cape Cod, as its musical director. Opera and Varla Jean, drag persona extraordinaire, just seem so right!
Put on your fabulous Fifties attire and sing along to GREASE, starring Olivia Newton John and John Travolta, at the Grand Opening of the Whaler’s Wharf Cinema Thursday, May 24th, 2012. This monumental effort has been made possible through private and public donations, a remarkable Board and the staff of the Provincetown Film Society. Your $100 ticket will go to the 1:1 Cultural Facilities Match with $75.00 tax deductible. The 6 p.m. reception will include treats and prizes for best costume. The 7:30 p.m. Sing-A-Long will be wildly entertaining, no doubt. Mark your calendar for this year’s Provincetown Film Festival, Wednesday through Sunday, June 13-17.
