Jackie Beat.
Jackie Beat All Summer
At the Post Office Cabaret
By Kahrin Deines
June 29th, 2008
There’s a new drag headliner in town this summer and she doesn’t miss a beat.
 | Beat, who is performing at the Post Office Cabaret, is known for her twisted renditions of pop star hits. She does Britney, she does Madonna, she does Aguilera, and she does them all live. |
|
That’s because she’s Jackie Beat, a superstar drag queen whose singing style has been described as one part Weird Al Yankovich and one part Bette Midler.
Beat, who is performing at the Post Office Cabaret all summer, is known for her twisted renditions of pop star hits. She does Britney, she does Madonna, she does Aguilera, and she does them all live.
That’s because she’s a rock star, in addition to a drag performer, and fronts an electro-rock band called Dirty Sanchez in her other moments. Dirty Sanchez, in fact, released a debut album in 2006 on Hypnotic Records, and has been an underground favorite in L.A. clubs for songs like “Really Rich Italian Satanists” and “Fucking on the Dance Floor.” Dirty Sanchez is also working on a new album that should be out soon.
To get a sense of Jackie’s style when she’s on her own, check out her popular music videos on YouTube. Her Brit parody “Filthy Whore” has had almost a million hits.
It’s not all song and dance, though. Beat’s a comedian as well, and has performed from her home base in L.A. all the way to New York, where her one-woman show “Jackie Beat is a Whole Lotta Love” ran for a straight – well, not quite – 18 months at the Fez Cabaret.
She has also toured with Roseanne Barr, opening for her comedy routine, and performed on Comedy Central, VH-1 and MTV.
Jackie Beat is performing Tuesday through Friday at the Post Office Cabaret through Labor Day. To find out more about her, visit jackiebeatrules.com. To contact the Post Office Cabaret, call 508.487.0006.
