The membership is truly at the heart of our organization and this group continues to inspire as we strive to preserve this important legacy. Always adhering to its 1921 mission statement - to exhibit and collect art works of merit, and to educate the public in the arts, the organizational structure of the museum has always included strong representation from both the artist and lay communities, fostering exhibitions and programs that serve both audiences.

As the Provincetown Art Association and Museum celebrates its first 100 years in the oldest continuous art colony in America, it honors its friends and neighbors whose support of its member artists has been their lifeblood. We welcome all to join in and share their experiences of art and community, as vibrant and essential today as it was when PAAM was founded in 1914. PAAM gratefully acknowledges the Smithsonian Institution Archives of American Art for providing important and irreplaceable objects and documents for this exhibition. This is the second of a four part series of exhibitions which will trace each quarter of PAAM’s significant history.
