Provincetown for your Best Buddy!

July 25th, 2014

If you're like me, no vacation is complete without your four-legged best pals; fortunately there's fun for you both!

With separate indoor play areas for large and small dogs, and 4,000 square feet of outdoor play areas, there's plenty of room for running, jumping, and all round fun.

A number of our inns and hotels allow pets for an additional fee, and each has its own space limitations restrictions. It's always helpful to check out guides like BringFido.com, and to call and confirm with your hotel or guesthouse. Currently, Gabriel's has the largest number of pet-friendly rooms and the most pet amenities.

If your hotel can't accommodate you, breath easy. We now have the Provincetown Pet Resort. Visitors staying at any hotel or guesthouse are welcome to pick up and drop off your pup as many times as you like during business hours so that they can explore with you. Choose from three sizes of suites for your dog, which feature glass doors and raised, orthopedic Kuranda beds, cheerfully painted walls and bright artwork. In the larger Deluxe and VIP suites, they also have TVs playing cartoons and animal videos. There is antimicrobial epoxy flooring, full climate control and soft music playing in the background all day.

Spoil Marlon with grooming services or include a full day of play with his fellow canines for $25. With separate indoor play areas for large and small dogs, and 4,000 square feet of outdoor play areas, there's plenty of room for running, jumping, and all round fun. In summer pools and plenty of shade are provided for comfort. Their dog playground equipment keeps things interactive and fun! Want to treat Chloe to a doggie ice cream at quiet time or a private tuck-in with a cookie at bedtime? They'll do that too!
They also offer cat boarding, where your favorite feline can socialize with others in the cat play room and then retire to their multi-level cat condo suites, complete with “kitty TV” (a stocked glass aquarium wall)!

With the Cape Cod National Seashore in our back yard, there are all kinds of interesting places for dogs -- and their owners -- to explore! Canine pals just love our beaches at Herring Cove and Race Point, and as long as you leash your dog (length is unrestricted), they will have a blast chasing Frisbees and balls in those stunning spots! What dog doesn't enjoy chasing a ball into the water?? You and your pet can even indulge in an off-leash early evening walk on Town beaches! Memorial Day through November 1st, off-leash hours are 6AM to 9AM and 6PM to 9PM. Adventurous pets are welcome to join their owners for whale watch tours, sunset cruises, a sightseeing trolley, sailing charters and walking tours. Dogs needing a run have a safe place to do so at Pilgrim Bark Park! If your pets feels under the weather, the Herring Cove Animal Hospital is two doors away from the Pet Resort!

Don't miss Friends of Heart and Paws and Whiskers, at 306 Commercial Street, with gifts for your pal and you! At Friends of Heart, pick up care items like ear cleaners, toothpaste, and Invisible Paw Butter, which can be used on paw pads to protect against burns from hot pavement (hint: slather it on paws outside at start of your walk). If you like bling, you can get Gracie a rhinestone dog collar in a rainbow of colors or a cool doggie T-shirt, as well as gifts for you and other pet lovers, from mugs to Christmas ornaments and collectibles.
At Paws and Whiskers, try some Go-go brand bully sticks – my dog LOVES these, to the point of forgetting that I exist while he's chewing one! They come in a multiple sizes and shapes, are all natural, and guarantee Chester a satisfying quiet-time pleasure! If you have an “outdoors dog,” you'll also want a pair of Doggles protective eye wear, which have UV protection now. With a variety of sizes and colors, you'll protect your pooch's lovely eyes in style. Don't forget a “Gulpy” water bottle/cup and refills for your poo-bag holders!
