A New Music Festival

For all the Sounds of Music

September 8th, 2007

The many different sounds of music now have a new showcase in Provincetown. Yes, there’s always been jazz and blues at Provincetown’s venues, along with plenty of Broadway and everything from classical chamber music to rock. But never are these heard all together on one day at one venue.

The First Annual Provincetown Music Festival will take place on September 15, with both afternoon and evening concerts.

A new event for fall 2007, the Provincetown Music Festival, is about to put an end to that. Conceived as a way to bring together different styles of music in one event, as well as the artists behind the sounds and their different fan blocs, the First Annual Provincetown Music Festival will take place on September 15, with both afternoon and evening concerts.

Thirteen different musicians are scheduled to take to the stage during the event and there will also be a number of surprise guests. Many of the participating musicians are featured on the recent Provincetown Stars album, a compilation of songs by Provincetown musicians.

Dane Vannatter will perform his mix of cabaret and jazz, while Peter Donnelly will bring in some folk and pop, and the Grab Brothers will tend to the rock n’ roll. Blues singer Ptah Brown, jazz vocalist Lori Colombo, and the husband and husband singing duo of Jon Arterton and James Mack will perform as well, along with numerous others.

The new festival has been organized by Bart Weisman, who is also the producer of the successful Provincetown Jazz Festival and a jazz drummer.

A portion of the festival’s proceeds will be used to support Helping Our Women and the Carrie A. Seaman Animal Shelter. Tickets for the event cost $25 and can be purchased online at www.provincetownmusicfestival.org or by calling 866.811.4111. They can also be bought at the door or at Muir Music. The first festival concert will take place at 2 p.m. at Provincetown Town Hall and the second will take place at 7 p.m. at the Pilgrim Monument.
