Provincetown Family Week Brings LGBT Families Together for Fun at Land's End
By Kahrin Deines
July 17th, 2007
Provincetown is always a great place for a family vacation. The lively mix of people and shops on Commercial Street, the Cape Cod National Seashore, whale watches and the many other fun water activities available – all these guarantee that there is truly something for the whole family all summer long.
 | This year the Family Pride Coalition, the event’s sponsor, has partnered with R Family Vacations to organize the week’s activity schedule, which is fuller than ever with beach picnics, dances, workshops and more. |

But there is one week during the season, Provincetown Family Week, that is a particularly good time for families to spend time at land’s end. Family Week, which will occur this year between July 28 and August 4, presents a number of events that bring together LGBT families from all over for a week of fun and connection.
Now in its twelfth year, Family Week has some exciting new elements for 2007. This year the Family Pride Coalition, the event’s sponsor, has partnered with R Family Vacations to organize the week’s activity schedule, which is fuller than ever with beach picnics, dances, workshops and more.

For the first time this year, no registration fee will be required to participate in Family Week. Although many of the week’s big events will require tickets, there will also be many free events and any family that is in Provincetown for the week can join in the fun. Daily fun activities include a gathering for kids under the age of four, classes with fun topics like kite making for kids between five and twelve, and a beach activity for the whole family.
Meanwhile there will also be many highlight events that do require tickets, including a Broadway Brunch, an “Under the Big Top” dinner with clowns and stilt walkers, a Disco Tea Dance, and the Major Donor Clam Bake at MacMillan Pier.
COLAGE (Childrens of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere), which offered programming for kids at last year’s Family Week, will also be back for this year to sponsor an independent program in conjunction with the week’s other events. COLAGE offers peer workshops, recreational activities, leadership development training and more for kids between grades 3 and 12 who have one or more LGBT parents. Registration is required to participate in COLAGE’s Family Week programming and costs $60 in advance and $85 on-site.
